For better results, you can narrow down the search image to the specific glyphs you are looking for a match. You can additionally search for "single story a" to be presented with fonts that support single story a glyphs.

Hi Ilse - Thank you for your feedback. We will look into supporting this in the CC app. In the mean time, you can always use the Adobe Fonts website to generate previews for custom strings.
